Quetta: The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has strongly condemned the attack and serious threats against local journalist Abdul Wakeel by a person named Nisar Khilji, affiliated with One News. The incident has been called an attack on freedom of expression.BUJ President Khalil Ahmed and General Secretary Abdul Ghani Kakarr expressed deep concern in a joint statement. They stated that following the impartial coverage of a press conference by a rival group, Abdul Wakeel received threats of severe consequences and was physically attacked in a central area of the city. This incident raises serious questions about the safety of journalists and represents a blatant violation of fundamental free speech principles.The BUJ leaders emphasized that journalists’ primary duty is to provide the public with accurate, neutral, and timely information. No individual or group has the right to pressure a journalist or demand biased reporting for personal or political interests. Such actions are malicious attempts to curtail press freedom and will not be tolerated.The statement clarified that legal action is underway against the accused Nisar Khilji involved in the attack on Abdul Wakeel and warned that any harm to the journalist will be the responsibility of Nisar Khilji.BUJ leaders demanded strict legal action against the person responsible for the attack and threats to ensure journalist protection and prevent similar incidents in the future.
