Beijing, China has recognized Pakistan’s vital role in promoting regional peace and security during the official visit of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir to Beijing. According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), COAS Munir held high-level meetings with senior Chinese leadership, including Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on regional security dynamics, progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the evolving global political environment. The Chinese military leadership reiterated full confidence in the strength of the Pakistan-China defence partnership.

The meetings covered:
• Joint defence and security cooperation
• Counterterrorism collaboration
• Military modernization
• Institutional linkages

A key focus was placed on enhancing operational coordination and improving interoperability to counter hybrid and cross-border threats. The COAS was presented with a guard of honour at the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Headquarters in a gesture of friendship and respect.

The Chinese leadership praised the Pakistan Armed Forces as a cornerstone of resilience in the region and commended Pakistan’s efforts for maintaining peace and stability in South Asia.

COAS Munir thanked China for its longstanding support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening military-to-military cooperation.

In a separate development, the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s Shandong Xinxu Group, which is expected to play a major role in modernizing Pakistan’s shipping and maritime sector.

This visit is seen as a reflection of the growing depth of the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China and their mutual resolve to promote long-term regional stability.
