The Balochistan High Court has taken suo-motu notice of a horrifying viral video showing the alleged honor killing of a couple, ordering immediate action from top officials. Chief Justice Justice Rozi Khan Babar described the incident as a serious human rights violation and summoned the Inspector General of Police and Additional Chief Secretary Interior to appear before the court on July 22, 2025, to explain the steps being taken.

Civil society and human rights activists have demanded a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. The court’s intervention is seen as a hopeful step toward protecting human rights in Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the provincial government has also responded swiftly, with the Chief Minister ordering prompt investigations and the arrest of suspects. Over a dozen suspects, including tribal leaders allegedly involved in ordering the killings, have been detained under anti-terrorism laws. The government has emphasized its commitment to ensuring rule of law and accountability in this grave matter.
This case highlights ongoing challenges with honor-based violence in the region, but the judicial and executive actions suggest a crucial move toward addressing such grave crimes and protecting the rights and lives of vulnerable individuals.
