Chagai – Hundreds of Levies personnel in Dalbandin staged a strong protest against the proposed merger of the Levies force into the police, alleging the government is breaching a court-ordered stay on the integration. Demonstrators gathered outside Dalbandin Levies Station, where senior officers, including Risaldar Major and Naib Risaldar, addressed the media to express their dissent.
Protesters condemned the government for ignoring a clear judicial stay order, labeling the ongoing merger efforts as contempt of the judiciary. “Those who do not respect the court have no right to impose their decisions on us,” said a protester.
The Levies force, deeply rooted in Balochistan’s tribal system since colonial times, has long been trusted by local communities. Officers highlighted their unparalleled knowledge of tribal social structures, which they argue cannot be replicated by conventional police forces.
Concerns were raised over the opaque nature of the merger process, which protesters allege involved secretive nighttime signing of documents by a newly transferred Assistant Commissioner, casting doubt on its legality.
Demanding the immediate cancellation of the merger plan, Levies personnel requested fair treatment if dissolution proceeds, including legal benefits, pensions, and financial compensation. “We should be retired with dignity—not merged forcibly,” said one protester.
They warned that integrating Levies with police forces risks destabilizing the tribal order that has maintained peace and governance for decades. The Levies vowed to engage in a peaceful, legal struggle to protect their identity, jobs, and the trust they have built within their communities.
